About Our COVID-19 Response
We definitely wish we hadn't had to cancel our Coming Home event. Coming Home generally provides 3:11 with $50,000 in operating funds, so this is a huge loss, but we know that it was vital for our community's safety.
We’re not panicked, but we do expect COVID-19 to have a large impact on our organization, and our ability to provide vital support services for our young people.
We are working hard to support our young people in this unprecedented time. Our youth have already been hit hard with this crisis:
-For our youth who will soon be without jobs, we will cover all of their housing costs until they are able to return to work.
- For our youth without personal transportation, we will provide Uber rides so they don’t have to use the bus, preventing the transmission of COVID-19 to their roommates and mentors.
- For our youth who cannot afford toiletries, food, basic needs, we will connect them to local resources and we will provide bringing them supplies and food to the home.
- For 3:11 alumni who are in college, we are reaching out to ensure they have a safe and stable place to go.
- For 3:11 alumni with jobs that are highly impacted by COVID-19 (such as restaurants, hourly work, event spaces, etc.) we are working with to provide supplies and potentially file for unemployment.
Because of this isolation, and because we want to be true to the spirit of 3:11, we are hosting a virtual family dinner. We are excited about the opportunity to still bring our community together! Building community takes all forms and despite being kept apart we know our community will not stop!
Thank you for your support of us, of our young people, and of building community!
